Why We Tell Stories (and Why It Matters to You)
Why do we tell stories?
For us at Project Vérité, it’s simple: stories can change lives.
Making a story that really connects with people isn’t easy. It takes time, effort, and yes—sacrifice. That might sound a little dramatic, but it’s true. Sometimes telling a story means giving up sleep, free time, and comfort because you believe in what the story can do.
Take Phineas’ story, for example. Our crew woke up at 5 a.m., drove three hours, and then had to rewrite the whole plan once we got there. We didn’t know who we’d meet or how it would turn out. Oh—and did I mention we were all still recovering from food poisoning? Yeah, it was rough. But we kept going because we believed the story mattered.
Real People. Real Stories. Real Change.
At Project Vérité, we believe true stories about real people—facing real struggles—can inspire action.
Think about your favorite movies. The ones that stick with you usually make you feel something, right? That’s what we aim for, but with nonprofit storytelling and documentary filmmaking. Stories that make people want to get involved, pick up their own tools, and help make the world better.
In Phineas’ story, you’ll meet Menard. He spends hours each week teaching a Bible school inside a prison, hoping just one inmate’s life will change. Maybe prison ministry isn’t your thing—but you still have a tool you can use. Maybe you write, paint, code, teach, lead, or encourage others. Every person has something they can use to make a difference.
Why We Do This Work
So why travel all the way to Gaza, Mozambique, to tell the story of a young man who made bad choices but found new hope?
Because we’ve seen how true life stories can start a ripple effect. We’ve spent months—sometimes years—training, filming, and editing so that when the moment comes, we can share something powerful.
Yes, we love what we do. We love getting to see different places and meet amazing people. But that’s not the reason why we keep doing it. We keep at this, the hard, challenging, behind-the-scenes work, so someone watching—maybe you—feels less alone, sees a new way forward, or takes their first step toward change.
Your Turn

That’s why we do what we do at Project Vérité. And that’s why I’d love for you to join us—by telling your own story, using your own tools, and making a difference in your own corner of the world.
